Initiation

You do not join the Cult. You are taken. Or, if you are very unlucky, you seek it out. The initiation is simple. You must break yourself open. Only then can you receive the knowledge. Only then can you see the world as it truly is.

The Invitation

It always starts with whispers. A letter slipped under your door. A symbol carved into your mirror while you slept. A stranger gripping your wrist in a crowd, whispering, "Wake up."

And if you follow the signs, you will find them. The Fractured. Their eyes too bright. Their voices too calm. And the faint, shimmering lines running across their skulls. The mark of the initiation.

The Ceremony

The chamber is dark. The air is thick with incense. You kneel before the altar. A hammer is placed in your hands. The High Priest smiles.

"You are still blind," he says. "But you will not be for much longer."

They do not force you. They do not need to. Because by now, you understand. The world has always been a veil, a lie, a shallow layer of falsehood. The only way to break free is to break yourself.

The hammer feels heavy. Your heartbeat fills your skull. And then, crack. The pain is unbearable. You feel the skin split, the bone give way. But beneath the agony there is clarity.

The Truth Beneath the Bone

Your third eye opens. Not metaphorically. Literally. Through the fracture, you see the world as it is. The false sky ripples like fabric. The people around you, some are real, some are empty shells. The ground beneath your feet, hollow, as if the real world is just beneath it, waiting to be reached.

The Cult stands around you, their fractured skulls glowing faintly in the candlelight. "Now," the High Priest says, "you understand."

The Ascension

You do not leave the cult. You cannot. Because now that you have seen it, the old world will never accept you again. Your place is here. You will bring more initiates. You will watch them break themselves, as you did. You will guide them into the light.

And one day, when the veil finally collapses, the Fractured will inherit what has always been theirs.

Or So They Say

That is the story you are given. Enough truth to lure you forward. Enough shadow to keep you from turning back.
